~ EARTHCARE ~

Did you know...

Founded in 1982 and incorporated in March of 1985, the Canadian EarthCare Society has developed and initiated numerous projects and campaigns designed to ensure environmental protection.

About EarthCare

What does EarthCare do?

EarthCare intervenes in issues where negative impacts to the environment (including flora, fauna, and humans) may be occurring - or about to occur.

It is part of EarthCare's' philosophy to try and resolve all issues in a positive manner and through a consultative process. When creating such change it is often our focus to improve national, provincial, or municipal legislation and laws regarding the environment. We often change attitudes as well!

EarthCare Accomplishments

  • Convinced the City of Kelowna to implement a Pesticide Notification Registry.
  • Worked with School District #23 to implement a ban on the use of synthetic pesticides.
  • Convinced B.C. Government to maintain recreation sites, trails, and forest service roads with access to crown land.
  • Set a legal precedent establishing that alternatives to pesticides must be considered before their use.
  • Initiated the first Household Hazardous Waste Day Program in B.C.
  • Assisted in the research, training and negotiation for the creation of more than 300 parks in B.C.
  • Conducted a province-wide educational Clean Air Community Challenge
  • Assisted in the creation of Kelowna's first Storm Water Discharge bylaw by discovering toxics (PAH's) in storm drains
  • Through the Land Resource Management Plan (LRMP), EarthCare negotiated the creation of 49 Parks in the Okanagan-Shuswap area. These parks will assist in the protection ecological biodiversity for the Okanagan-Shuswap area.

How We Do It

EarthCare has used appeal processes, the court systems, discussions with politicians, corporations and stakeholder groups to create an atmosphere that fosters positive change. Over 90% of our work is educationally based.

We support the public in voicing their concerns on environmental issues that affect their lives. EarthCare hopes that you will utilize our website to become aware and effect change. Please use our take action section!! It is important to let decision makers know how you feel.

Our mission is to create change in a positive manner for the benefit of all. We hope you will join us.
