EarthCare's original name was "C.O.M.A." which stood for Citizens Opposed to Malathion Applications.
C.O.M.A. was successful in stopping the use of Malathion (a pesticide to control mosquitoes)in Kelowna. C.O.M.A. was also successful in encouraging the Regional District to use a biological larvicide, "BTI". This biological control program has been extremely effective in controlling mosquito populations.

What is the Canadian EarthCare Foundation?
The Canadian EarthCare Foundation was incorporated in 1990. Preceeded by the Canadian EarthCare Society by more than a decade, the Canadian EarthCare Foundation's primary mandate focuses on education.
The Canadian EarthCare Foundation promotes education and community involvement to protect Earth's environment. The Foundation is currently a member of the B.C. Endangered Species Coalition and the B.C. Environmental Network.
The Foundation is also a member of the Enhanced Watershed Advisory Committee for the Mission Creek watershed, ensuring that the Mission Creek watershed is managed in a holistic and integrated manner for all water-related resource values.
