Dear Premier Campbell, Minister de Jong, and Minister Murray

Your decision to maintain forest recreation sites and trails throughout the province is a good first step in resolving a key recreational problem in the province. Ensuring access to the recreational network requires that forest service roads be maintained to ensure safe travel and that no environmental damage occurs.

Another important consideration is the fact that at least 40 per cent of Parks in our province are accessed via the forest service road network. Not maintaining the road network will mean its continual degradation, which will cost more to repair in the long run, and damage tourism. Your goal of doubling recreational revenue will not be realized if you continue your current course.

Forest recreation is an extremely important value in B.C. and is a significant contributor to the economic, social, and cultural environment in this province.  Not maintaining forest service roads may create a situation that could cause potential harm to residents and tourists alike. I encourage you to avoid this.

I urge you, as Premier, and the Minster of Forests, and Minister of Water Land and Air Protection to go the next step and commit to maintain the forest service road network in this province. Please advise me of your decision on this matter.
